The work of the House SCDOT Modernization Ad Hoc Committee made clear through months of public input that state and local governments need additional resources to address a growing list of infrastructure challenges.
The SCDOT Modernization bills pending in the House (S.831 and H.5071) respond to some of the concerns raised during that process by advancing long-overdue reforms that improve accountability, increase transparency, and help the state deliver transportation projects more efficiently and effectively.
While these bills will not solve every infrastructure challenge facing South Carolina, they are a step in the right direction. The provisions included in these bills will help the state better manage project delivery amid rapid growth and increasing demand on our infrastructure systems.
SCFOR applauds these efforts to modernize SCDOT and urges the House to advance these comprehensive, forward-looking reforms. At a time when dollars are not going as far as they used to, these bills will help ensure taxpayer dollars are used as wisely and efficiently as possible.
